‘...beautiful and enigmatic... anyone who has loved and lost will take something from this show... a reflection of the unknowability of the human heart...’ - The Guardian

‘...a complex, brave, intelligent production... by turns funny, shocking, daring and never less than brilliantly acted... theatre at its absolute best...’ 5 ***** - Whatsonstage.com

‘...there’s no denying the passing beauty of The Moon The Moon or its power to disturb... flawless performances...’ The Stage

The Moon The Moon is a terrifying, tender, heartbreakingly optimistic new play by award winning Unlimited Theatre.

A man stands on the edge, at the shoreline. He’s holding a plastic bag that steams with the Christmas dinner he’s made – even though it’s February. It’s going dark.

He thinks he’s been driving, alone, for months, living in his camper van. He thinks the Moon has been following him, talking to him. She reminds him of his wife.....and he takes a step into the water.

And now he’s locked in the cellar, wearing someone else’s pyjamas and he doesn’t know anymore if he’s being looked after or has been kidnapped. And the Moon is still with him, singing to him, desperate for him to join her. It’s time to choose. Stay here and let them heal you. Or go with the Moon, and live.

The Moon The Moon is Unlimited’s most ambitious, bold and beautiful work to date.

Post show talk Wednesday 17th June on working and writing collaboratively for the theatre, chaired by playwright Dan Rebellato, Professor of Contemporary Theatre at Royal Holloway, University of London. Dan's playwriting credits includes work at the Kings Head in London, National Theatre of Scotland, Edinburgh Fringe Festival, the Pleasance and Arts Theatres in London and Graeae Theatre Company amongst others.

SPECIAL ONE OFF WORKSHOP Friday 19th June 2009, 16.30 - 18.30
Unlimited Theatre have arranged a unique opportunity for a 'Writing for Theatre and Radio' workshop with playwright Chris Thorpe to accompany performances of The Moon The Moon at Southwark Playhouse:

The Moon The Moon co-writer Chris Thorpe will lead a two hour workshop on the various challenges presented by writing in these two different mediums - where they converge, where they differ and what lessons can be learnt from both.

Chris is a founder member of Unlimited Theatre. He has written for the National Theatre and was writer in residence at the West Yorkshire Playhouse 06-07. He writes drama for BBC Radio 4 and works closely with Sheffield's Third Angel. He translates new work, mainly from the Balkans, and has a close working relationship with Serbian playwright Ugljesa Satinac. Chris is a selector for the National Student Drama Festival.
Tickets only £7 or £4 when bought alongside a ticket for that evening’s performance of The Moon The Moon.
