Set in New York during the Great Depression, Paradise Lost is a deeply affecting drama about one family’s struggle to come to terms with change. Odets’ vivid characters and smoldering language create a powerful and life affirming theatrical experience. Considered by many as one of the defining American playwrights of the twentieth century, Odets wrote some of the greatest dramas of social protest of all time.
The Oxford School of Drama makes its first ever visit to Southwark Playhouse. The School trains actors for the profession. Recent graduates have appeared with The Royal Shakespeare Company, The Royal National Theatre, Sheffield Crucible, Out of Joint, Tiata Fahodzi, Nuffield Theatre Southampton and Birmingham Repertory Theatre. Director Jonathan Humphreys received great acclaim for his production of Mojo Mickybo which transferred to Trafalgar Studios last summer. Designer Tom Scutt won the 2007 Linbury Biennial Prize for Stage Design.
