In this well written play Martin Crimp shows a domestic relationship drifting imperceptibly into child neglect.
First time seen in London since its premiere at the Royal Court by the West Yorkshire Playhouse. Crimp presents a world beyond the tabloid stories of physical abuse, “probing the misinterpretation and thwarted communication that lead to tragedy.” In a tense and sadly humorous drama he explores the complex nature of blame and responsibility by examining the lives of parents, friends and neighbours. “Getting Attention was written partly as a reaction to some of the tabloid journalism in which people are portrayed as monsters. I have tried to portray their humanity.”
