    ★★★★★ The Arts Desk
★★★★ The Independent, The Telegraph, Time Out, Whatsonstage

‘This is easily the best play I’ve seen this year’
    Michael Coveney, Whatsonstage

‘EVERYONE. Go see Philip Ridley’s Shivered at Southwark Playhouse if you can. A unique, pertinent, significant play by a major playwright.’
    Mark Ravenhill, Playwright (via Twitter)

‘Southwark Playhouse now also has the best new play in Shivered’
    Mark Shenton (via Twitter)

★★★★ ‘The murky brick tunnels and rumbling overhead trains of Southwark Playhouse set the mood perfectly… Shivered shows Ridley at his imaginative best in what is arguably his most moving and accessible adult play to date’
    Neil Dowden, Whatsonstage

‘Southwark Playhouse has been a firm supporter of polymath Philip Ridley’s work in recent years, and he returns to this venue with his latest, amazing, new play… Shivered is brilliantly performed… This is the most exciting piece of new writing on the London stage.’
    The Stage

‘In Russell Bolam’s clear-sighted production Ridley’s writing quivers with menace but there are moments of savoury humour amid the scabrous imagery.’
    Evening Standard

‘His command of story is strong enough to remain the foreground and his language, always emotive and evocative, is beautifully heightened, almost to the point of romanticism.’
    Matt Trueman, Carousel of Fantasies

‘We can’t all just be hurtling through nothing towards nowhere…can we?’

Following hot on the heels of the success of Tender Napalm at the begining of 2011, Philip Ridley returns to Southwark Playhouse’s Main House for the World Premiere of his latest play Shivered.

A young couple are moving into their new home. A soldier is being held hostage. Two boys are searching for monsters. All these things are connected by both family and time… but what story can be told when family and time are broken?

Covering over twelve years, it unpicks the story of two families and then re-weaves it into something new and startling. Seven people, one war, a derelict car plant and mysterious lights in the sky… all come together in the Essex new-town of Draylingstowe, where the view from green hills once offered hope and prosperity for all.
