Close to You follows the story of Jennifer and her ongoing turbulent relationship with Anorexia, an infliction that is intertwined with her love and idolisation of 70s pop sensation Karen Carpenter.
Jennifer is a performer, full of self-criticism, who spends her time evaluating herself professionally and aesthetically. However her personal struggles are far from clear-cut as they are inextricably linked with the famed Anorexia sufferer Karen Carpenter. Struggling to get over both her disease and her obsession, it soon becomes apparent that it may never be her agenda to do so.
Taken from real life experiences and featuring live music taken from The Carpenters’ hits, Close to You addresses the world of eating disorders, the struggle for success and obsession with popular culture in a fresh and dynamic way.
Close To You is suitable for those aged 14+.
There will be a post show discussion on Thursday 13 March which is free to all ticket holders. The director and writer/performer will discuss the experience of having Anorexia, writing about it and what it means to be a young female in today’s society.
