  • Enduring Song: Abandoned Youth
  • France. 1096. Matthew, a young French Knight, sets out on the First Crusade. Behind him he leaves a broken family, a crumbling ancestral farm and a teenage sister who must save it all from ruin. From the fields of France to the churches of Antioch and the siege of Jerusalem, Enduring Song is a historical epic about love, hope and family.

Staged in the round with a cast of twenty and traditional Corsican polyphonic songs, Bear Trap Theatre Company return to Southwark Playhouse following their multi award-winning debut production Bound.

    Press for Bound:

‘one of the most accomplished pieces of debut playwriting that I’ve seen in a long time’ ★★★★★ Evening Standard

‘an emotional storm’ ★★★★ The Telegraph

‘beautifully thought-out piece of work, a sea-bleached story told with passion and performed with real dynamism’ The Guardian

    ‘outstanding’ Independent on Sunday

Please note that Enduring Song is recommended for audience members aged 14+.

    Enduring Song: Abandoned Youth
    Tuesday 24th & Wednesday 25th June 2014 at 7pm

Abandoned Youth is the exhilarating prequel to Enduring Song.

A generation before the First Crusade, a peasant community unites to celebrate the harvest. But behind the merry-making and boyish hi-jinx, old tensions ripen, sour and explode.

Devised with Writer/Director Jesse Briton and Musical Director Max Macintosh, our Young Company have had unprecedented access to Bear Trap Theatre’s rehearsals, creating their roles and shaping backstories in collaboration with the professional cast.

The performance is approximately 15 minutes in duration.
Tickets are free but limited – email stewart.melton@southwarkplayhouse.co.uk to book yours now!
