Set in a remote northern Canadian town, Grace and Sugar Ducharme are infamous twins marked by tragic events from their past: their triplet died in the birth canal, and on their twentieth birthday their mother was killed while their father was split in half by lightning.

As if this wasn’t bad enough, each year on their birthday Grace finds a dead body. But this birthday will be different – it’s lucky thirty!

Unfortunately for the sisters, a serial killer with a fancy for strippers is on the loose and a nomadic cop killer, Trout Stanley, wanders into their house in the midst of their birthday celebration.

About the Writer
Claudia Dey is a Toronto-born playwright, novelist and nationally syndicated advice columnist. Her work has been recognised with nominations for a Governor General’s Award, a Trillium Book Award and an Amazon.ca First Novel Award. Claudia’s writing explores themes of loss and mourning, which she calls the “process of alchemising grief”. Interested in questions of belonging, Claudia’s work questions how we find ourselves when all obvious markers that form our identity are gone.

Claudia’s first novel Stunt was published in 2008. In 2010 she published How to Be A Bush Pilot: A Field Guide to Getting Luckier, a sex and relationship advice book for men that draws on her experience writing columns for The Globe and Mail and Toro.

Claudia’s plays include Beaver, The Gwendolyn Poems and Trout Stanley. Her plays have been presented across Canada, the United States and Europe. Trout Stanley was nominated for a Dora Award and went on to have its off-Broadway premiere in 2006, followed by successful productions at regional theatres across North America and Germany. It was named one of the best Canadian plays of the last decade by The National Post’s Robert Cushman and the best play in 2005 by Toronto’s NOW Magazine. In 2010 Trout Stanley was adapted into an opera by composer Daniel Fueter.

Matt Steinberg is an award winning director and actor. Directing credits include Art and Scope (Tarragon Theatre) and Prime Targets (Toronto Fringe). Matt was also an assistant director for The Canadian Stage Company’s Romeo and Juliet, A Time to Reap (Royal Court), and Secret Theatre (Lyric Theatre, Hammersmith).
